Jacksonville Beach - I got down to the beach about sunrise, which was about an hour before high tide. I hooked up some finger mullet and started getting hits from bluefish imediatelly. I caught a couple of blues around 18inches in the first hour. I had lots of bites throughout the day, and there was plenty of mullet in the surf. I caught a couple more blues around 11am, then called it a day. The weather was beautiful, and it was awesome day all around.

Guana River Mid-Beach Access - Since it was about mid-tide at Jacksonville Beach, Wes and I decided to drive down the coast a bit, and try to find some deeper water. We ended up getting on the beach at Guana River State Park, Mid- Beach Access. We were using finger mullet that we froze a couple of weeks ago, for bait. We had a lot of action and ended up with 4 bluefish. Wes also caught a good size shark. We had a blast as usuall.

Jacksonville Beach - We had some trouble with rough surf and currents that kept washing our lines back in today. We still had plenty of bites, though, which felt like bluefish most of the time. We caught a few bluefish and got lots of reeling practice as our bait was constantantly washed up on the beach to the south of us. We had a blast as usual.

Wes and I got to the beach at about 6:45, just after sunrise. There were very large schools of mullet running in the surf about 50 yards out. It almost looked like the water was boiling with so many mullet. Huge splashes and swirls in the schools showed that some larger fish were feeding on them. The mullet were a little to far out to reach with the cast nest, so we started off fishing with some from the freezer. I caught a couple of small Atlantic Sharpnose sharks in the first few minutes. It was a little slow for a bit, then Wes hooked a good size Bonnet Head Shark, which gave him a nice fight. It was a full grown adult a bit over 3 ft long. Since we planned to eat the shark. I cut it behind the head and at the tail, to kill it and bleed it. I always bleed them as soon as possible, which helps get rid of some of the amonia smell and taste in the meat. After that we caught eight bluefish. It was a beautiful day and we had a blast. It\'s cooling off a bit now, so it\'s a little more enjoyable even in the middle of the day

We started a bit later today. Actually I wasn\'t going to fish today, but Wes called and had a friend visiting and they wanted to fish. Since it was already about 10 am on a holiday weekend, I suggested we try a different spot, so we wouldn\'t have to fight the crowds. We drove south a bit to the Middle Beach Access park, just south of Ponte Vedra on A1A. The beach was wide open, just south of the boardwalk, so we set up to fish. I brought along 3 quart bags of frozen finger mullet, just in case we couldn\'t net any. The tide was coming in and I could see some scattered scholls of mullet coming by, but they were too far out to reach with the cast net. We ended up using all the frozen bait. It was a little slow at first, but the blues started biting before long. After about 3.5 hours in the midday sun, we had 10 blues in the cooler, and were out of bait. It was a fun day, I got a little sun burned, but we had a blast.

We got on the beach about 7 am this morning and stayed for about 4 hours. There were scattered schools of mullet coming by all day, and a few of the schools were quite large. The numbers of mullet are definitely still increasing. We had constant bites from the small Atlantic sharpnose sharks. We pulled in at lease 16 shark pups, which we released. In the end we brought home 4 bluefish. It was a nice day.

We had a very exciting morning, but first news first -> the 2014 Mullet Run has begun!!! Wes and I hit the beach around 7am. W could see all kinds of action out about 150 yards from the beach. The surf was pretty calm, but we could see fish popping the surface of the water all over the place. FIsh were feeding on schools of finger mullet, but there were none running close enough to shore for us to net, so we started fishing with some pink shrinp flavored FishBites. I caught one whiting, then I noticed some mullet hopping over my fishing line

Not much action today. I tried frozen finger mullet (cut) and fish bites. I had a few good bites, but I only hooked a couple of Atlantic sharpnose sharks. I caught the first one around 9am and the second around 10:30. Both were caught on finger mullet. They were close in size, around 14 inches long.
