Panama City Beach - As you can probably tell from the picture above. This is not really a 'surf fishing' report!! Red snapper season just opened in Florida waters so I drove over to Panama City Beach to go out on my brothers boat. We put in at Andrews State Park in PC Beach. We got out on the water at about 10:30am. We had to stay within 9 miles of the coast in order to stay within state waters, since snapper season had not opened yet in federal waters. We got out to our first spot and immediately began catching red snapper. We were using pinfish for bait. We had good luck at several spots and ended up with some red snapper, white snapper, a grouper and a king mackerel. It was a lot of fun getting out in the deep water and catching some big fish for a change. We had a blast.

Jacksonville Beach - I headed down to the beach at 7:30am. It was a beautiful, warm sunny morning, and some of the neighborhood kids came along again. We had one rod set out with finger mullet and the rest of us were using shrimp flavored Fish Bites. I don't think we had a single bite on the finger mullet. We did have a lot of small bumps on the Fish Bites, which turned out to be small Spot and Croakers. The kids had a lot of fun catching the Croakers and Spots, all of which got thrown back except for a few of the bigger spot. My son Wyatt is pictured above with a Croaker he pulled in (with a little help). We had a blast as usual and ate fried Spot for lunch.

Jacksonville Beach - I headed down to the beach about 7:30am. Some of the kids from my neighborhood came down as well. We were fishing with shrimp flavored Fish Bites and frozen finger mullet I put up, back in the fall. It was a beautiful day, but things were a little slow. We had a few bites on the fish bites and the finger mullet, but only brought in a couple of catfish. My neighbor Zach, did manage to catch this beautiful little scalloped hammerhead shark pup. We catch a lot of bonnet head sharks from the beach here, but this is the first time I've seen a scalloped hammerhead. We had a blast as usual and after a couple of hours the kids put down their poles and headed out to swim and surf.

Jacksonville Beach - Wes, Emily and I got down to the beach at about 7:30. Wes and I brought some frozen finger mullet from my bait freezer and Emily ran by Rick's Bait and Tackle to get some fresh live shrimp. Wes hooked up some cut mullet while Emily and I gave the live shrimp a try. It was a beautiful morning and the weather and tide conditions were good. We had a few bites and Emily and I both landed a top-sail catfish (pictured above), which we threw back. A bit later I caught a couple of small bonnethead shark pups, which also got tossed back into the surf. I caught all three fish on shrimp. I also tried mullet for a while without any success. Wes ended up with one small whiting, which is all we brought home for the day. We enjoyed the beautiful morning on the beach anyway. As always we had a blast.

Jacksonville Beach - We heard yesterday that a few folks at the pier and few in the surf were landing some good size pompano. My neighbor and fishing buddy Emily, stopped by Rick's Bait and Tackle to pick up some live shrimp, and met me down on the beach about 7:30 AM. I brought a few fresh finger mullet that I neeted the day before. Emily hooked up some shrimp, and I tossed out some cut mullet. Things started kind of slow, with no bites for a while, until Emily landed a very cool and strange looking guitar fish, which is a kind of ray, sort of shaped like a guitar. We tossed the guitar fish back and a few mitures later Emily lnaded the beautiful Pompano pictured above. We both fished with shrimp for the next couple of hours, but had no more bites. We called it a day about 10:30, and headed back home. We ate the pompano for lunch!

Jacksonville Beach - Wes and I got to the beach about 7:30 AM. Tide was incoming, with high tide about 8:30. Conditions overall were pretty good. It was a bit slow, but we did get a few bites throughout the day. We ended up with 3 bluefish for the day. The spring bluefish are usually a bit larger than the blues we catch in the fall, and these were no exception. The largest bluefish pictured above was almost 2 ft long. They average about 14 inches in the fall. We had a blast as usuall.

Jacksonville Beach - Wes and I fished Saturday morning from 7:30 to 10:30 with no bites! We did hawever catch a few mullet in the cast net. We didn't see any schools of mullet, but random tosses in the shallow surf were yielding one or two big finger mullet at a time. We caught enought mullet to keep fresh bait on the lines and put a few up in the freezer at the end of the day. It was a beautiful morning. Emily joined me on the beach on Sunday at 7:30 the tide was nearly out when we first got there, exposing an outsuck from a trough that was emptying as the tide receded. I ran over, with my castnet to the point where the water leaving the trough was funnelled into a little stream. I covered the stream with a toss of the castnet, and pulled in about a dozen mullet, which got us started for bait. We fished on through low tide without much luck. The blues werent biting cut mullet so I hooked up some live and tossed them out. I got bites on the live mullet , but only manged to hook one blue, pictured above. The bluefish are very good at steeling bait when the pieces are large enough. They can easily snatch a whole mullet, or simply bite off half, without getting near the hook. The blues continued to enjoy the fresh mullet, but we didnt land any more. The weather was nice and the sun came out about 9:30. We had a blast!

Jacksonville Beach - Wes and I got down to the beach around 7:30 am. It was aroud 60 degrees F with a light wind from the southwest. The tide was heading out and we were fishing from trhe sandbar in ankle deep water. The morning started out slow, but we started getting bites after an hour or so, as we were able to cast into the deeper water. We had steady bites in the late mrning and ended up bringing home 6 bluefish. The picture above is from last week. It's my neighbor Emily bringing in two bluefish at once. We had blast.
